This origami flower, from the book Origami Master Class Flowers, is called the Narcissus. It was designed by Joost Langveld. It is also a real flower in nature, and can be white, yellow (orange or pink in garden varieties), with either same or different colored centers(corona and tepals). I chose this flower to make because it had a really long origami stem. I wanted to make a bunch of them and put them in a vase, so it could be an origami bouquet. Below is a picture of what the flowers looked like.
I made these flowers for my dad’s birthday. There are five flowers in the vase. Two tall ones representing my mom and my dad, two medium ones representing my older sister and me, and one really small one to represent my baby brother. I also made a card for my dad. He really liked the present and the card. My friend’s birthday was a day before my dad’s, so I made a golden one for her, too.
The most challenging part of the origami Narcissus flowers was one of the steps required you to make a pentagon using some previous folds to guide you. I found this challenging because it was hard to make a precise pentagon and differentiate the folds from each other. Once I did it once, however, I was able to do it several times again. Something I didn’t like when making these was that I had to keep making the same thing over and over, but that won’t be a problem if you’re only making one.
All in all, I think this origami narcissus flower was really fun. It was an intermediate level project, and it had a stem, which was new for me(I had never made that before). I think, if you ever check out Origami Master Class Flowers, besides from trying out all the amazing models in the book, you should try the narcissus. And, you never know, you might also gift this to someone!
