Origami By Children, also referred to as OBC, is a competition organized by OrigamiUSA. Children under 18 from all over the world submit either one or two origami pieces to the competition, and some of them are chosen as winners to be published on the OBC page on OrigamiUSA’s website. The models are judged based on many criteria, such as quality of folding, paper choice, intricacy of model, etc. If you designed your submission, that is also taken into account. Below are my submissions to OBC so far.
In 2022, I submitted the model American Eagle v2 by Jo Nakashima, and this model got selected to be posted on the OBC page! I was thrilled to be selected and really enjoyed folding the eagle. Here is a link to the gallery it was posted in.
In 2021, I submitted two models, Spread Hexagons by Eric Gjerde and Star Flower by Meenakshi Mukerji. Neither one got selected.
In 2019, I submitted two models. The diagrams for both models can be found in the book Zen Origami by Maria Sinayskaya. The first one was called Isolde Sonobe, and the second one was called Curly Sonobe. Neither of these models got chosen to be posted on the OBC page.
For submitting these two models, I once again received paper from OBC. This paper was polka-dotted on one side and colored on the other.
In 2018, I submitted one model called the Vortex Model. I found the instructions on how to make this model in the book Mind-Blowing Modular Origami by Byriah Loper. This model didn’t get chosen for OBC.
For submitting this model and participating in OBC this year, I received some paper as a gift from OBC. It was double sided; one side colored, and one side a shade of gray with patterns on it. It came in four colors: blue, red, green, and yellow. I used most of this paper to make a 30-piece modular origami model by Maria Sinayskaya. The model is called the Este Sonobe.
