Small Flower Octagon Box

This piece of origami is called the Small Flower Octagon box. The pattern on the top spirals inwards and in the middle of the spiral, there is a “flower”. This design also came from the book Fabulous Origami Boxes by Tomoko Fuse, just like the Butterfly Square Box. This design was interesting to me because it used the same amount of paper as the Butterfly Square Box, but it was much bigger. This was probably because some of the paper was used on the butterfly, but its cool that paper can make so many different types of things!

A challenge I faced was that one of the steps was confusing. It was asking me to pull out something to make the box 3D, but I didn’t get what to pull out. So I kept trying until I made it look like the picture in the book. After that, I could make the pieces really fast. I timed myself, and I made 1 piece in 1 and a half minutes, which is pretty fast!

I think that this is a really great box to make. It is pretty big and it is durable, because octagons are more stable than squares. It was a bit confusing to assemble, and I had to take it apart and make it again a few times, but once I was done, it was really stable and great. I recommend trying this out, and if it gets really confusing, coming back to it later. This was exciting and fun from the very beginning to the very end.
